Strategic Importance
In February 1899, the first train from Tiflis arrived in Alexandrapol (Gyumri). Since then, railway transport has acquired exclusive strategic importance for landlocked Armenia.
"South Caucasus Railway" (SCR) CJSC was founded in 2008 and manages the Armenian railway network under a concession agreement. The company's investment volume amounts to 572 million USD , aimed at the modernization of infrastructure and the development of international communication.
